Public seminar in Kotka on 9th-10th November 2012

On 9 – 10.11.2012 the National Board of Antiquities’ Vrouw Maria Underwater project is holding a public seminar on international marine archaeology From the Vrouw Maria to the Titanic – What to do with intact wrecks? in partnership with the Maritime Museum of Finland at Maritime Centre Vellamo in Kotka.
The seminar will address means of researching and accessing underwater cultural heritage especially from the point of view of well-preserved wrecks. The purpose of the seminar is to use international examples to awaken a debate on methods of researching and presenting underwater cultural heritage. These experiences can be exploited when shaping the future of the Vrouw Maria and of other different types of well-preserved underwater finds. The seminar will conclude the four year-long Vrouw Maria Underwater project and present its final results.

The seminar languages are Finnish and English. Lectures will not be interpreted. The seminar is open to the public but attendees must register in advance. Attending the lectures is free of charge.
